What a Walk-Through Bond Involves

A walk-through bond is arranged in advance so the person can surrender to the jail at a scheduled time rather than being arrested. The bond must be in place before the surrender, and the agent typically accompanies the person through the jail's intake.

Booking still happens. Expect fingerprinting, a photograph, and an inventory of personal property. Release follows once the booking is complete and the bond is accepted. Times vary by facility, so confirm the schedule with the agent for the specific case.

When a Walk-Through Bond Makes Sense

It is most often used when a warrant or a set bail already exists and the person wants to surrender on their own terms. It is not a way to avoid the court date. The person still has to attend every court setting after release.
